The Winchester action is very solid feeling but the lower tang has some issues- crack behind trigger and part of the last screw hole on the lower tang has been cut as seen and i am no gunsmith but i believe with some money and time a gunsmith might be able to get the Winchester action back into shooting shape or thats just what i keep telling myself it would be cool to turn this $5 garage sale find into something that actually shoots again. Both of these were picked up at a local sale for $5 and i figured for that price they could be good paperweights but i would like to actually have them restored into shooters and return them to what they were designed to do. I found this action along with another one marked favorite. 7th 79 and a serial number #88127 it would be cool to find out what caliber and configuration this action was used for and try to eventually have it restored to ifs former glory. i was just posting this to see if anyone might have any info on this old and what i believe to be a winchester action for an 1885 low wall rifle? It is marked on the front of the action where the barrel would connect with the letter "C" and the other markings i see are-Patent Oct.
